Excerpts from Alojz Piltaver’s letter

Dear sisters and brothers,

… Criticizing and addressing among the members in our country increased so much that it became as a contagious decease which may cause the DEATH OF THE SCHOOL. …

Among us there are sisters who are appropriating themselves the right to criticize and almost no one of the members was spared and almost no one of the members entered the School to not face some words of indignation. …

There are among us also those who think that the whole theosophical work consists out of careful watching over the co-pupils, of the discovering of some of their mistakes and to sensationally talk about it among co-pupils - judging, of course, within the limits of their own prejudices and their own moral and ethical constitution. With such a measure they estimate others and insert dissention in the ranks of their co-pupils. They strongly believe that in doing so they are performing a “good work”, while they are actually just disposing their own nature and serving as the channel for the negative energy which they too seldom use to talk about and to call “dark force” with the result of destroying the tissue of the School. …

There is in our country a surprising percentage of those who rudely violated the Rules. It was in any circumstance my duty to act according to the decision of the Outer Head. Anyway, I used this right only in one case when the School was on the edge of precipice. And also in that situation it wasn’t me who executed the exclusion but the Outer Head himself, while in other cases I took the responsibility myself. In spite of all this, brothers found countless reasons for the calumny under the motto “Theosophical Duty”. …

There are sisters who think that they are here exclusively to be asked for councils in regard to anything about the Esoteric School - otherwise terrible offence. …

You see, because of such and similar things definite sister said the following: “Our warden is no good, we must find another one, otherwise we will establish a new T. S. W. for Istria.” …

Some older members think that, when they are addressing their co-pupils in the presence of young members, this will arouse in them some special respect towards themselves and hatred towards the addressed. This is bad psychology. The law of Karma is perfect balance. Mutual addressing increased so much as a contagious decease that there is no wonder that we are criticized by common people. …

One another thing out of our life: Excuse me brother, you are a member of the communist party, aren’t you? Excuse me sister, but I don’t know how you could come to such idea. But, weren’t you a member of the former Committee of the T. S.? Yes, I actually was, but dear sister, this has nothing to do with the party. How not, the whole Committee was communistic, so you must have been too! Brothers, I think that there is no commentary needed and that here springs up the mind decease. …

I believe that each of you will be strong enough to look into the eyes of TRUTH and to carefully think over these things and I am sure that the TRUTH will win. This contagious decease must stop at any cost. Take care to not lose the School for ever! …

Therefore I will ask every sister and brother to confirm the receipt of this letter and to reply in the way she/he thinks it is best for her/him. I want that anyone find that place she/he believes she/he partakes. It is better to remain only three who are loyal to the School then 100 of those who think that the School is the opportunity to live out one’s own personal nature. We will consider that the silence speaks for those who will not send a reply within 30 days! After that I will send a report to the Outer Head.

With brotherly greetings,

Your devoted brother,
Alojz
